Ivan Geliukh discusses the EU's environmental achievements
The European Union is actively implementing initiatives to make its energy sector sustainable, with individual countries setting examples of successful development in renewable energy. DTEK's top manager, Ivan Geliukh, highlighted the major achievements of EU countries in this area.
For instance, according to Geliukh, Germany installed 9 GW of new solar energy capacity in 2023, reaffirming its leadership in the sector. The country is also making progress in wind energy, which plays a crucial role in its energy mix.
Another example is Spain focusing its efforts on wind energy development. By 2023, the total capacity of wind farms in the country exceeded 30 GW.
"This demonstrates the effective implementation of infrastructure projects that contribute to the growing share of renewable energy in the overall energy balance," Geliukh noted.
However, Denmark remains the global leader in wind energy production and utilization. Today, Denmark's wind power plants generate more electricity than the country needs for domestic consumption.
By 2025, Denmark plans to expand its exports of clean electricity to neighboring countries, further strengthening its position in renewable energy.
"At the same time, France, which remains one of the few countries heavily reliant on nuclear energy — providing over 70% of its electricity — actively develops wind and solar energy to balance its energy portfolio and reduce its carbon footprint," said Ivan Geliukh.
He emphasized that Europe's overall success in building a green energy sector results from a comprehensive approach combining government support, innovative technologies, and private capital investment.
